Full Description

This training is designed for behavioral health providers and clinical supervisors who work with adolescents and young adults experiencing opioid and other substance use concerns. The training provides an overview of prevention, assessment, and treatment considerations specific to substance use during adolescence.

Participants will review signs and symptoms of opioid and other drug use and misuse, the continuum of substance use disorder severity, and why adolescence represents a critical developmental period for the onset of substance use disorders. The training introduces assessment tools for adolescent substance use and explores the relationship between trauma, trauma‑related disorders, and substance use.

The training also addresses evidence‑based approaches to prevention and treatment, overdose prevention planning with adolescents, and the continuum of clinical care. Emphasis is placed on matching symptom severity to appropriate levels of service and supporting effective clinical decision‑making when working with adolescents and families.
